Fixing up your home is important, as it helps you to maintain the value of your investment. But do you have any idea how much home repairs cost?
In this series, we’ll take a look at a few of the most common home repairs, and get into how much they will cost you on average.
If you want to spruce up your home, there are two options: replacing the roof or the exterior paneling.
Your roof is probably going to be the first part of your home’s exterior that will show signs of damage. After a few years of regular wind, rain, sun, cold, and hot, it’s very likely that the roof will be damaged.
It can be pricey to replace your roof–anywhere from $5,000 to $12,000. That’s because the materials are costly, the job is time-consuming, and it HAS to be done right.
But instead of replacing the roof, why not simply repair it before it starts showing signs of serious damage? You’ll spend a few hundred (maybe a couple thousand) dollars on the repairs, and you’ll keep the roof in good condition. You’ll find that regular roof maintenance and repairs will be much cheaper than ripping off the roof and replacing it completely.
Exterior siding may need to be replaced after a decade or two. Usually the siding will fade, crack, or show signs of damage, and it’s a good indication that it needs to be replaced. The cheapest siding option will cost you as much as $8,000 (for a 2,200 square foot home), and that’s JUST for the job. When you look at how much it costs to dispose of the old siding, you can easy hit the five-figure mark.
In this case, it may be better to paint the exterior of your house. It may need to be done more frequently, but it’s much cheaper.
In Part 2, we’ll look at the costs of replacing your hot water heater…
