Planting a dream garden can make your house beautiful, and here’s how you can do it without breaking the bank!
- Stay away from chemicals —You may think that investing in chemical herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers is the way to go, but not so! Not only will you harm the soil, but you could damage the plants as well. Fertilizer should always be home-made–either mulch or compost will do. You should do pest and weed control by hand, or use natural pest remedies that won’t harm your plants or leech nutrients from the soil.
- Use leaves for mulch — When the leaves fall from your trees or plants, don’t throw them on the rubbish heap. Instead, spread the leaves over the soil of your garden as mulch. As they are broken down, the nutrients they contain will be absorbed into the soil and feed your plants. The same goes for grass clippings, twigs, and any other debris falling from trees or plants. Ask your neighbors for theirs, and it will go a long way towards keeping your garden healthy and growing strong.
- Improve the quality of your soil — If there is one thing you want to spend money on, it’s good soil. Nothing can beat quality soil, rich in nutrients and the perfect medium for your plants to go. It’s worth investing in at least 6 inches’ worth of topsoil for your garden, and add new soil every year or three.
- Compost at home — If you learn how to start your own compost pile, you can always have the proper fertilizer for your plants without spending a single cent. The compost will be made entirely from the organic waste generated by your household.
