How to Make Your House a Home Part 2

How to Make Your House a Home Part 2

It’s not easy to know how to make your house a home! There’s no single addition or change that will give your house that cozy, comfy ambience that makes you feel safe and secure. In the end, it’s a lot of small things that do the trick!

Here are a few ways you can make your house feel like a proper home:

Install lamps — When you are in a room that only has overhead lighting, the room tends to feel large and empty. But when you are in a dark room sitting next to a lamp, your world “shrinks” to just the radius of light. To make your living room, bedroom, or sitting room feel cozier, install lamps. That way, you don’t have to turn on the bright overhead lights, but you can sit with a nice little lamp.

Soften the lighting — Nothing will make your home feel cold and harsh like hard white light. Your kitchen, pantry, and other utilitarian areas of the house do need that kind of lighting, but you don’t want harsh light in your living areas. Change all the light bulbs (or even the fixtures) to soften the lighting. Warm, yellow light will be much cozier and homier, making you feel more relaxed and at ease.

Replace overhead lights — Many homes come with pre-installed light fixtures, but how homey or cozy are those fixtures? Is your light literally a bulb in a ceiling socket, or do you have light fixtures that give your home a warm atmosphere? Consider changing your overhead lights for fixtures that bring the light closer to head level (such as with a chandelier).
