Dusting can be a time-consuming process, but it MUST be done regularly! Here are a few tips for more effective dusting:
Start with the top — When dusting, always start with the top of the room. This means the ceiling fans, the tops of your shelves or bookcases, or any other high pieces of furniture. Want a sneaky secret for easier dusting of ceiling fans? Slip a pillowcase over the fan blades, and it will act as both a rag and a dust-catcher.
Work in a circle — Once you’ve finished dusting all the higher objects, it’s time to start at the doorway and go around the room in a circle. You can go either right or left–it really doesn’t matter. All that matters is that you are dusting all of the surfaces in a circle, making sure to get all the dust in the room. By the time you reach the doorway again, you’ve hit the surfaces and are ready for the last step.
Vacuum up the mess — Instead of using a wet rag for dusting, just wipe the dust off the shelves and onto the floor. Once you’ve finished the dusting, take out the vacuum cleaner and give the floor a good vacuuming. This works for both carpets and hardwood floors. Vacuuming will leave your floors looking good, and will get rid of most of the dust.
Finish off with a wet rag — Once you’ve given the room a good vacuuming, take a damp cloth and wipe all of the surfaces to get rid of any last traces of dust. It will ensure that your room is as clean as possible, but without spreading more dust!
Follow these tips, and you’ll leave your home cleaner than ever.
