Small Dining Rooms 101 Part 2

Want to know how to make the most of small dining rooms? Check out our awesome tips below to find out how to be comfortable in smaller spaces:

  • Use a “Murphy” table — You’ve seen “Murphy beds” that fold out from a compartment on the wall. These beds are ideal for those who have very little space in their apartment, but who don’t want to sleep on a fold-out couch. You can do the same thing with your dining room table. Mount one side on the wall, with a pair of hinges that will allow you to fold the table down when it’s time to eat. It’s a very handy way to save space!
  • Keep the color palette light –– If you want to make the room look bigger, you’ll use bright, airy colors. White is a beautiful choice for a compact dining room, but you can use pretty much any soft pastel colors. Just remember, keep the color choices limited. You want people’s eyes to focus on the table and chairs, rather than on the walls around the dining room. This will give the dining room a much more open, “airy” look despite its small size.
  • Use an expandable table –– You may not always need dining room space, but sometimes it’s nice to have room enough for more than just two or four diners. An expandable table is your best option, as it can accommodate anywhere from six to twelve people. There are expandable tables both round and rectangular, and they can help you easily create more seating room when you have guests over for dinner. If you like to entertain, this will be a VERY good idea for you.

In Part 3, we’ve got a few more tips to help you use small dining rooms right…
