Smart Tips for Safe Home Demolition Part 4

Home demolition is an important first step in any home renovation process, but it’s vital that you do it correctly! Here are some smart tips for safe home demolition:

Turn off the power — This should go without saying, but the LAST thing you want when smashing into a wall is live wires! If you can shut off the electricity in only that room or section of the house, do so. If not, turn off ALL the electricity. Imagine what would happen if your hammer smashed into live wires, or your metal crowbar or prybar touched the wires. Definitely not a good thing!

Have the right outfit — You don’t want to work in your regular house or exercise shoes, but get yourself a sturdy pair of boots that will protect your feet from falling debris. You can also buy a pair of paper coveralls to wear over your clothes, and it will stop your clothes from being damaged or stained in the demolition process. Of course, you shouldn’t start any demolition project without goggles to protect your eyes, gloves to protect your hands, and a mask to stop dust from getting in your lungs. All of these are a MUST!

Consider waste disposal —Not sure how to get rid of the waste? You can rent a roll-off garbage truck for a day, and it will make it much easier for you to deal with the waste in just one trip to the landfill. Or, if you don’t have the time, consider hiring a waste disposal hauling service. They’ll come, load up their truck with your waste, and cart it away for you. This is much more convenient, but it’s a bit pricier!
